The Ninth Scribe's Online Photographic Gallery of the Eyes on Owls show

This show was advertised in the local papers weeks in advance and they recommended we buy our tickets in advance as well, but I didn't listen. It isn't that I could resist these noble and majestic creatures, but times are so tough that I didn't want to commit myself to anything beyond necessity. Still, the tickets were so reasonable, $10.00 for adults and $5.00 for kids!

Well, before I knew it, March 7th was here. It was a beautiful day, the sun was shining and it was nearly 60 degrees! I set off to make the 1:00 show and arrived with five minutes to spare, but when I got to the door of the Harwich Conservation Center, a sign read: Eyes on Owls is Sold Out! I dropped my head for a moment. Why didn't I listen? It was just ten dollars! I started to turn away to go back to my car and had a eureka moment. I thought, "It's such a gorgeous day, maybe someone won't show?"

With that thought I raced inside and started talking to the hosts, Marcia and Mark Wilson... and I did get in! In fact, I became their volunteer "white wash" assistant, a polite term for bird poop patrol... but it was well worth the small amount of effort to get up-close and personal with this wonderful couple and their beautiful owls. Look how close I could get to them!

Here, Marcia Wilson is introducing one of her owls to a very excited audience. She explains that these are not her "pets" and she has only been allowed to care for them because they've been injured.

Image of packed audience for the Eyes on Owls show As you can see, the place was packed, so if you get the chance to see this amazing live owl show, take their advice and purchase your tickets well in advance! Don't leave admission to lady luck.

This horned owl is quite a character and he seems to be very much at home with Marcia, though he hissed at me.   But, then again, maybe I just got a little too close for his liking.

All in all, it was a great show and a great way to learn about owls! If you're interested in attending the Eyes on Owls show and want to find out when the next one is, just give the Harwich Conservation Trust a call or write them... and be sure to reserve your tickets in advance!
